In June 2023, three brick-colored Oriental Cuckoo eggs were found and described in the south of Sakhalin Island, planted in the nests of Japanese Bush-warbler Horornis diphone and Pallas’s Leaf-warbler. Their belonging to the Japanese gens horornis of Oriental Cuckoo, previously not registered in Russia, has been established. As on the island of Hokkaido, in the conditions of Sakhalin, the main owner of the gens is the Japanese Bush-warbler. Judging by the infection, 2 cases out of 10 nests (20%), this cuckoo gens is currently relatively common in the studied territory. So far, it is impossible to say anything about the biological compatibility of species, since according to available data, the share of adoption of a cuckoo egg in a Japanese Bush-warbler was 50%.
