Abstract

The paper reports on the second record of a rare Lasiocampidae species, Opisthodontia sonithella Zolotuhin & Prozorov, 2010, from western Uganda. This species was described based on a single male collected more than 60 years ago in the Kalinzu Forest and was known only from the type locality. The present record of O. sonithella from the Bwindi Forest expands the knowledge of its range, flight period, suitable habitats, and morphology. In all probability, the species was distributed in the vast territories of the montane forest of western Uganda, but now occurs only in two small national parks (if its population in the Kalinzu Forest is still preserved).
